Mini-C Open-Top Self-Cleaning Litter Box — Anti-Pinch Safe for Cats up to 27.5 lbs
Most automatic litter boxes use closed rotating drums. The Mini-C does not. It uses an open-top design with a roller mechanism, three independent safety sensors, and full FCC/CE/RoHS certification — at $199, with no subscription required to use any feature.
What Makes Mini-C Different
- Open-top design — Your cat enters from above and is never enclosed. There is no closing door, no full-rotating chamber. The cat is always free to leave during cleaning, regardless of what the cleaning mechanism is doing underneath.
- Triple-sensor safety — A gravity sensor on the roller, an infrared sensor at the entrance, and a dedicated anti-pinch sensor. They run independently. Any one trigger stops the machine and pushes a notification to your phone.
- Fits cats 3.3 to 27.5 lbs (1.5 to 12.5 kg) — Built for adult cats from small to extra-large. Maine Coons, Ragdolls, and other oversized breeds are within the supported range.
- No subscription, ever — App control, weight tracking, usage statistics, and monthly trend graphs are all included with the device. No premium tier, no recurring fees.
- FCC + CE + RoHS certified — Real engineering certifications for the US, EU, and global markets.
- Same Tuya app as Crigge Magic S1 — If you already use a Tuya device, Mini-C joins your existing app. No new install. One app, two devices.
Why Open-Top Architecture Matters
Most "automatic litter box kills cat" stories online involve closed rotating drum designs. The failure mode is structural — when the entire chamber rotates and the entry seals during cleaning, a cat that re-enters has no easy escape. This is the architecture used by many premium and budget litter boxes alike.
Open-top architecture removes this failure mode entirely. The Mini-C's cleaning mechanism is a roller that turns underneath the basin to separate waste from clumping litter. The cat enters and exits from the top of the device. There is no door to close. There is no full chamber rotation.
This is not a marketing claim. It is the physical structure of the device.
Triple-Sensor Safety, In Detail
| Sensor | What it does | When it is active |
|---|---|---|
| Roller gravity sensor | Detects weight on the roller above 1.5 kg (your cat's presence) | Cleaning, Reset |
| Infrared waste-bin sensor | Detects an object at the entrance via infrared | Cleaning, Reset |
| Dedicated anti-pinch sensor | Independent mechanical anti-pinch protection | Cleaning, Emptying, Reset (continuous) |
If any sensor triggers, the machine immediately stops and pushes a notification to your phone. The dedicated anti-pinch sensor is the only one that runs continuously through every operating mode.

App-Based Trend Monitoring
The Mini-C tracks your cat's litter box behavior automatically and shows trends over time through the Tuya app. Sudden changes in usage frequency, toilet duration, or weight can be early signals of health issues your vet would want to know about — particularly UTI risk, urinary blockage, or systemic illness.
- Number of cleanings per day
- Toilet duration per visit
- Cat weight over time (trend monitoring, not diagnosis)
- Monthly usage statistics graph
Note: weight readings have a margin of error of approximately ±10–20%. They are accurate enough for tracking trends, but not precise enough for medical-grade measurement. Use the data to spot unusual patterns — a real diagnosis comes from your veterinarian.
Odor Management
Mini-C uses three layers of odor control: a washable active filter, a refillable deodorant compartment at the front of the waste bin, and immediate isolation — waste falls into a sealed drawer bag the moment the cleaning cycle runs. Together, these trap odor at the source rather than letting it accumulate in the basin.
No automatic litter box can completely eliminate odor. The Mini-C reduces exposure through its mechanical design, the filter and deodorant absorb residual smell, and the sealed drawer keeps waste contained until you empty it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Mini-C safe for my cat?
Yes. The Mini-C combines an open-top architecture (your cat is never enclosed during cleaning) with three independent safety sensors: a 1.5 kg gravity sensor on the roller, an infrared sensor at the entrance, and a dedicated anti-pinch sensor that runs continuously. Any single trigger stops the machine and pushes a notification.
What's the difference between an open-top and a rotating drum litter box?
A rotating drum litter box uses a sealed chamber that rotates as a whole, with the entry door closing during cleaning. An open-top design like the Mini-C uses a roller mechanism underneath the basin, with the entry remaining open from above at all times. The open-top architecture removes the "closed chamber" failure mode that many automatic litter box safety stories revolve around.
Does it require a subscription or monthly fee?
No. All features — auto-cleaning, manual mode, app control, weight tracking, usage statistics, push notifications, and monthly trend graphs — work without any subscription. Connect the Mini-C to the Tuya app once and you're done.
Will it fit a Maine Coon or other large cat?
Yes. The Mini-C is rated for cats from 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) up to 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs). That covers Maine Coons, Ragdolls, and most large mixed breeds. The inner basin measures 430 × 287 × 118 mm with comfortable clearance for adult cats of all sizes.
What kinds of litter does it work with?
Mini-C is designed for clumping litters: clumping clay (recommended), bentonite, sodium-mineral, and tofu litter (clumping variants). It does not work with crystal silica, pine pellets, or non-clumping litter — the cleaning mechanism cannot effectively separate waste from these.
Can I use it without WiFi?
Yes. The Mini-C operates fully autonomously in its default mode — it cleans on its own without any WiFi connection. Connecting to the Tuya app unlocks weight tracking, usage history, and remote control, but is not required for the litter box itself to function.
Why only 2.4 GHz WiFi?
The Mini-C supports IEEE 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz only, not 5 GHz. This is common for IoT devices because 2.4 GHz has longer range and better wall penetration. If your home WiFi is dual-band, make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz network during initial setup, or temporarily separate the SSIDs in your router settings.
How accurate is the weight tracking?
Weight readings are accurate to approximately ±10–20%. This is sufficient for trend monitoring (catching significant weight changes over weeks) but not precise enough for medical-grade tracking. The Mini-C's value is in spotting unusual patterns — sudden frequent visits, sustained weight loss — that are worth a vet visit. For an exact reading, weigh your cat manually.
Is the Mini-C suitable for kittens?
The Mini-C is rated for cats 6 months and older. The 1.5 kg gravity threshold means the safety sensors will not reliably activate for cats under that weight. Kittens younger than 6 months should continue to use a traditional litter box until they have grown.
How is it different from the Crigge Magic S1?
The Magic S1 is a robot pet camera on wheels that follows your cat around the house. The Mini-C is a self-cleaning litter box — different category, different problem. They share the same Tuya app, so if you already own a Magic S1, the Mini-C joins your existing app with no new install required.
